ABOUT THE SHOW

The full-length Teen Edition of Anaïs Mitchell’s haunting, jazz-inflected folk opera follows Orpheus’ mythical quest to overcome Hades and regain the favor of his one true love, Eurydice.

This intriguing and beautiful folk opera delivers a deeply resonant and defiantly hopeful theatrical experience. Following two intertwining love stories – that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of immortal King Hades and Lady Persephone – Hadestown invites audiences on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Inspired by traditions of classic American folk music and vintage New Orleans jazz, Mitchell’s beguiling sung-through musical pits industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love.

Two-act. Approximately 150 minutes with 15-minute intermission. Appropriate for anyone who likes a love story.

FANS SAY

“I went last night and my expectations for a high school rendition of my favorite musical were blown away. The cast did an amazing job and it’s totally worth a watch, especially for the price.”

“I absolutely agree that this isn’t just another “pretty good” high school musical. For reference, I saw the show on Broadway in 2019 with the original cast and at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando in 2021. I think that the quality of the singing, acting, sound, lighting, and the choreography that I saw last night are all astounding, period. I don’t want to oversell a high school production, but just know during the show I was struck by how close they often came to other versions of the show I’ve seen.”

“The performers are SO TALENTED!

The singing was amazing!

The acting was exceptional!

The band was mind-blowing!

The dancing was phenomenal!

The choreography, stage, lights, sound, smoke, costumes, timing, professionalism,…….and so much more…….were outstanding!”

“Whoooooa! Hades Town was, hands down, the best high school performance we’ve ever seen — and we’ve seen our share. Everything about it was spot on and so well executed, from the staging and lighting to the singing, acting and on-stage musicians. Every single lead was strong and convincing, the use of scaffolding and lighting creative and effective and the singing and instrumentals were well-rehearsed and compelling… Really, really superb.”

“Over the years I have watched and participated in a lot of musical theater, but I have to say last night’s show is perhaps the best high school production I have ever experienced. In fact, it was better than a couple of the professional national tours I have seen come through the PAC over the last 30 years. Please express to the other directors and the students what a magnificent job they have done. Such a timely message and marvelously executed. Thank you for blessing us with this experience.”
